The Gradation paintings are part desire and part pure abstraction, coming from the physical need to paint- a pure adoration of the medium of oil paint- and a glance back at the northern romantic european painting tradition with their atmospheric landscape references. But they also come from a question: what might a painting from the future look like? If I were on a space station, hovering above a planet, what paintings would be on the walls?
